Take Risks

Take Risks

Jacqueline Ng

Back in July we have encountered some unforeseen challenges, and one of them is the shortage of microcontrollers, the control core of the HumminGuru ultrasonic vinyl record cleaner. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the severity of the global chip shortage has gone up this year. The demand for chips is continuing to outstrip supply and the chip supply fluctuates every day. Informed by supplier that it is not possible to determine the time of supply, we found it disappointing, as we knew it would greatly affect the production schedule. Nevertheless, our procurement team was anxious to seek for suppliers and sources for quite a while.

Two weeks later, it was a bit of a surprise that the supplier has been spending a great effort to seek and obtain one viable source at last. The only source they could find is the microcontrollers with higher bits that perform greater precision and performance. Although the cost becomes higher, our team had decided to go for that.

Today, the procurement order of the microcontrollers is confirmed, and the goods have finally arrived at our manufacturing plant! Even though this unpredictable matter has still more-or-less caused the delay, we are still thankful for taking the risks with us and would also like to express our sincere thanks to our supplier for being so responsive and reliable.

There are times where we just need to take risks to move forward. Do you agree?

I am very happy to hear that in the time of material shortages no corners were cut and in fact the product is better. Quality is always No. 1 priority. Well done humminguru!

What does this mean for the price of the product? Will it be going up, and if so, by how much?
